What’s In A Name?

I've heard someone say before that choosing a name in this world is a bit like choosing a character who will carry you through everything that happens inside of it.

Perhaps we choose names because of what they mean to us at the time. And then, if we're lucky, we live long enough inside them to give them meanings of their own.

Maxine.

I chose the name Maxine because I wanted it to remind me to live my life to the maximum—and hopefully help others do the same, too.

Maxine = maximum.

On a personal level, I believe in squeezing as much life as possible out of the time I've been given: through shared experiences, travel, people, curiosity, adventure and freedom.

Maximise everything.

Maximise joy, freedom, pleasure, love, positivity, connection, and all the beautiful experiences we get to have while we're here.

And I find that I tend to attract people who believe in much the same.

Sung.

When I first started a year ago, I chose the surname Sun to reflect my love for sunshine and the sun.

I've always been drawn towards sun-filled places. They make me feel radiant and alive, and I love everything the sun represents to me: energy, warmth, optimism, life and zest.

More recently, I decided to put a little 'g' at the end.

Sun became Sung.

I wanted the spelling to acknowledge my Asian heritage, which I'm very proud of, rather than simply being an English wordplay.

It was important to me that my name reflected the two worlds that have shaped me immensely: Singapore and Australia, an Eastern upbringing and a Western young adulthood.

Maxine herself sits somewhere between all of those things.

Maxine Sung = East meets West.

Maximum joy. Maximum freedom. Maximum connection. Maximum sensuality. Maximum living.

My work name also helps me to 'get into character', in a sense, although I wouldn't necessarily describe Maxine as a made-up persona of mine.

She's more like an enhanced version of me.

She’s a little bolder. With the sexy and glamorous dial turned up. Perhaps a little more mischievous. But still very much me.

And after living inside this name for more than a year now, it carries so many people, places, adventures and memories that I couldn't possibly have imagined when I first chose it.

So there you go. That's the story behind my name. ♡

My name also carries a very cute nickname, which you'll know about if I ever ask you to call me it. ;)

And while I'm at it...

Should I mention that Maxine is a Leo🔥?

Which probably explains some of her big, fiery energy.

Thank you for stopping by to learn about my name!

I’d love to know yours, if our paths ever happened to meet.
